Importing your data into Budgeto
If you're moving to Budgeto from a spreadsheet or another budgeting app, you don't have to start from a blank slate. Budgeto supports importing historical transactions so you can keep your history intact.
Supported formats
Budgeto accepts common export formats, including:
- CSV files exported from spreadsheets or other budgeting tools.
- Statement exports from your bank, where available as CSV.
If you can get your data into a CSV, you can bring it into Budgeto.
Preparing your file
A clean import starts with a tidy file:
- Export your transactions to CSV from your spreadsheet, bank, or previous app.
- Make sure each row has at least a date, an amount, and a description.
- Drop any obviously broken or duplicate rows if you can — though you can always tidy up after importing too.
Running the import
Once your file's ready, upload it through the import flow. Budgeto reads the rows and adds them to your history so your past spending shows up in your cycles.
After importing, it's worth a quick spot-check:
- Open a cycle or two you've got data for.
- Confirm the totals look about right.
- Fix any stray entries that didn't map cleanly.
After you import
With your history in place, set up your budget cycle and recurring entries so your ongoing budgeting runs smoothly from here. Importing handles the past; recurring entries handle the future.
Switching from another app
Moving across is meant to be painless. Import your transactions, bring your history over, and keep tracking without rebuilding everything from scratch. For the full migration mindset, read Switching from spreadsheets to a budgeting workflow.
